Although a little further away (about 100 km north of Sibenik) Paklenica National Park is close enough for all those who are looking for a different kind of adventure from sightseeing of Krk waterfalls or boat trips and enjoyment in Kornati islands. Paklenica is a mountain and is an ideal place for guests looking for hiking and enjoying the fresh air. The Paklenica from Šibenik is about an hour's drive. Continue on foot with the appropriate equipment.
Certainly worth mentioning is the fact that the park abounds in plant species, among which the forest communities are particularly emphasized. The forests are made up of black pine (Pinus nigra), whose resin "Paklina" is Paklenica and its name.
Apart from the pines, the Paklenica forests are rich in beech (Fagus sylvatica), and there is also a birch curve. Paklenica, by its surface, owns the largest preserved forest complex in Dalmatia. More than half the park is covered with vegetation, and the rest is karst relief.
As we have already mentioned, vegetation is made up of beech forests, black pine, and places where the forests are mixed with the two mentioned species. We find in the forests of the Paklenica and the oak tree (Quercus pubescens), the white grayling (Carpinus orientalis) and the black grouse (Ostrya carpinifolia). On July 7, 2017, Paklenica National Park was also included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in Europe, as part of the common world heritage of 13 countries called "Beech forests in the Carpathians and other areas of Europe".
Mljet is one of the most beautiful national parks in Croatia. From Sibenik it is about 230 kilometers away, but it is definitely worth it to visit, you go south if you have one free day on your vacation.
Park with its surface covers the western third of the island of Mljet. The boundaries of the park come from the Blackbird area to the deepest point of the island, Cape Goli. Some national parks include Polače (the main tourist and tourist port), Goveđari (the oldest village on the Jezera), Soline (a small place at the entrance to Veliko jezero) and Pristina (post office and national park) and Pomena (the only hotel on the island).
