The Croatian History Museum records its beginnings of public activity with the National Museum in Zagreb and the opening of its first collections for visitors in 1846. As an independent museum institution, the Museum began operations in 1940. It was not until 1991, during the democratic changes and the process of independence of the Republic of Croatia, that the Croatian History Museum was established by integrating the Croatian History Museum and the Museum of the Revolution of the Peoples of Croatia.
