The Dubrovnik Archaeological Museum does not have its permanent space and exhibit. There is only a temporary allotted room for use, with a smaller handy library. For now, the museum's structure is divided into seven collections, but we will mention the more interesting ones.
The Vase Collection
The museum has a collection of vases consisting of two collections received by the museum at the end of the last century as donations. The collection of late geometric style is originally from Cyprus, while the second is red-figured from Campania. The museum also has a couple of Corinthian vases that are believed to have been found on the island of Korcula.
Egyptian Collection
Perhaps the most interesting is the Egyptian Collection, which has 238 objects and is the second largest in Croatia. This collection was created by donations to the Museum of History at the end of the 19th century. Famous donors include the Amerling brothers, Tonko Kurajica and Ivo Nardeli.
The Collection is dominated by amulets, Egyptian statues of deities, scarabs and various jewelry. Especially valuable are figurines and amulets with various displays. For example, we can mention: trinity, two feathers, an eye, a dwarf, and the most popular scarab. Among the objects mentioned is a mummy made up of parts of multiple human bodies, and her torso is made of straw. It is a very skillful creation of illegal merchants from the 19th century, at a time of great interest of collectors and museums in the objects of Egyptian civilization.
Numismatic collection
Another interesting collection is made of metal coins and medals. We can mention items such as Greco-Illyrian coins, Roman Republican and Imperial coins, and Byzantine, to Turkish ones. Of course, there is the money forged by the Republic of Dubrovnik. Here, too, most of it came from donations and collections during archaeological research in Dubrovnik and the surrounding area. Most of the exhibits were collected during the exploration of the Cathedral of Dubrovnik.
In the Museum you can see exhibitions: History, Early Medieval Sculpture, Roman Gold Earrings, Ancient Cyprus, and many other exhibitions that have been announced on the official website of the Museum.
