The Museum of the Croatian War of Independence was first opened to the public on 5 August 2008. It was not the date that was chosen just like that - then, Homeland Thanksgiving is celebrated. It is the symbolism that indicates the thematic setting of the Museum and its story.
More than 500 exhibits from 1991-1995 are on display in the museum premises. during the Homeland War (from the Dubrovnik defense period). The main topic of the exhibition is Dubrovnik in the Homeland War between 1991-1995. year, his defense and suffering. The exhibits have another story - the history of the Fort Imperial.

During its founding, the Museum of the Croatian War of Independence was located in the part of the Imperial Fort, on the Srdj hill above Dubrovnik. The fort played an important role during the defense of the City, and today it is a symbol of the defense of the City of Dubrovnik.
Today, this museum is perhaps the most famous, and the museum exhibits numerous authentic documents, various art and documentary photographs. The exhibits include printed material, objects that were weapons of the defenders, various explosives, as well as war charts and orders. Items include items of military equipment, items from the daily life of Dubrovnik residents and veterans in an aggressive environment, authentic videos and videos. The museum contains the participants 'memories, the war flags of the veterans' units, the original 1991 Srđ flag, as well as minefield plans, war diaries and similar material.
There is also a memorial plaque on Srđ with the names of the veterans who lost their lives defending Dubrovnik at that place.
